Domaine Ponsot, Morey Saint Denis Alouettes(from Monts Luisants; an alouette is a lark). A slightly riper and more complex nose presents notes of red currant, floral, spice and notably earthy aromas. The energetic, punchy and welldelineated flavors culminate in a lightly mineral inflected, delicious and well balanced finale. This moderately firm effort should be drinkable after only 6 to 8 years if desired. (89 92) 2024+

I have had the 1999 Rocche on many occasions

This tightly wound effort is a middle weight in the context of the appellation yet it is an absolute knockout in every respect and particularly in terms of its perfect balance

There is no reason to age this any longer as it's not going to get any better

It has always been expressive

a worthy follow up to the 2010

This for me has a better balance than the 2009

with deeply pitched sweet cream and butter tones and a slow-to-unfold singed pineapple flavor

I underestimated this from cask as there is excellent purity of expression on the nose with a floral red fruit quality followed by remarkably detailed flavors of solid intensity if not necessarily great density with a purity and length that are impressive
